Making A Change

In today's society, social media takes a toll on consumers. We see fashion entrepreneurs living their fantasy abroad, new fashion trends each week and large clothing hauls displayed on screens. Since covid, we all want to live out their dreams, and by doing so, we try to fulfill this clicking purchase on items, causing an uprising in fast fashion. Consumers then throw out these pieces due to their lack of versatility as well as their non-timeless design. Today, over 50% of Americans dispose of these products into the waste, causing an uprising of 34 billion pounds in clothing waste. Without sustainability and thoughtful versatile designs, our consumers and environment will drown in pounds of unwanted garments. That's why we must come up with a solution to expand our wardrobe without over buying, using synthetics or coming up with limited trends. Chloe’s goal is to produce products with significant impact, for the people and the planet.

The definition of reversible is something that is capable of going through a series of actions either backwards or forwards. “Transformation” by Chloe, is a collection of garments that go through a mutable change. Each classic piece is reversible or detachable, helping the consumer expand their closet without the stress of buying more. For instance, a pair of plain palazzo pants is flipped into a patterned pant all while utilizing sustainable materials and practices. The goal of “Transformation”, is to inspire consumers to update their wardrobe in a sustainable manner. That being, purchasing timeless and unique pieces that can create endless outfits. Chloe, a luxury Parisian brand, is already taking steps for their label to stand out. With their almost plastic free workspace, eco-friendly alternatives, and statement garments, building up a modernized, tapestry collection with natural and recycled textiles can transform the luxury industry.

About Chloe

Research_edited.png

Chloe, a luxury fashion brand based in Paris, was founded in 1952, with their focus being to fill the niche between couture and mass production. The brand has been looked after by various creative directors, which today are known as fashion's most influential designers. Today, Gabriella Hearst, a diverse, sustainable designer from Uruguay, is the brand's current creative director. The collection “Transformation”, Chloe’s collaborative, will reflect Chloe’s DNA, by producing modernized, classic pieces of high quality textiles. Chloe’s current sustainable specialty is recycled wool fibers, specifically cashmere. Additionally, not producing cotton T-Shirts due to water waste. Overproduction is one of fashion's current obstacles. Furthermore, to shine a light further on sustainability, our collection will cooperate with Fashion Revolution, a non-profit organization that spreads awareness about fashion working conditions, environmental exploitation, and throwaway culture.

This collection will show other luxury brands to be eco-friendly and transparent with their sourcing and production. Transformation will impact the fashion community and through its sustainable and green conscious choices. Additionally, this collection will lead as an example of how function and elegant fashion mix, leading and inspiring consumers on a sustainable path.

Latex Printing

Latex printing, is an eco-friendly option, for printing technology. This digital printing technology is adaptable, and is always changing in order to produce less waste. For instance, accurate amounts of ink for printing, less transfer paper, and plus water for after print treatments. This will align with Chloe’s 2025 carbon footprint reduction goal.

Eco-friendly Inks

Although latex printing is the most sustainable option, how can we make it better? Looking into alternative, organic inks for latex printing is the future. From algae, soybean to vegetable ink, these newer, recyclable options open doors to an environment safe fashion. Paired with latex ink, natural dyes will further push Chloe’s values of using natural methods.

Sustainable Wool Sourcing

Today, many consumers believe that wool is a sustainable option for a natural textile. However, the wool production industry can be harmful, releasing greenhouse emissions, animal cruelty and toxic chemicals during production. By 2025, all wool material used in future Chloé collections will be recycled or certified by the Responsible Wool Standard.
